Sensitive storytelling, in the opinion of many, is the most significant test of a singer. If that is the case, then a song has found a friend in Robin Grant.
A native Chattanooga who has delighted local audiences for many years is now poised to earn national acclaim as she prepares to release her first album, a collection of original jazz songs for “the now”, titled, “Good Girl”.
The soul Robin brings to each performance calls to mind the great Tinpan Alley days of the 1920’s 30’s and 40’s, but with an edgy delivery and sizzle that resonates with the youthful in body & spirit. The diversity of her repertoire and talent extends beyond her flaming vocals, to her original compositions, which are sure to soon delight many a listener.
Robin begin her music career at an early age and grew and her performance ability through her experience in the theater community and transitioned into jazz with the help of a mentor, bassist Wilfred Middlebrooks, a native Chattanooga who toured for many years with Ella Fitzgerald. Using a controlled but inescapable intensity, Robin’s deliberately phrased singing, supported by an equally sensitive group of talented musicians, her band, The Standard, convinces the listener of both a determination and ultimate ability to move any audience.
