Angelo made his name as a songwriter before recording this LP for ABC records. He collaborated with the staff at Hot Wax & Invictus records, coming up with many hits for the Honey Cone, 100 Proof, and others. He later co-wrote “Power” for the Temptations. Sadly, none of his blockbuster compositions are evident on Bondage. That, and the fact that Bond’s falsetto gets boring after a few tunes, makes for a weak production. He has no one to blame but himself, since he co- produced it (with McKinley Jackson) and wrote all the songs. “He Gained the World (But Lost His Soul)” and “Man Can’t Serve Two Masters” stand out above the rest.
