This is the fourth CD by vocalist Alma Micic. She is supported by guitarist and husband Rale Micic, bassist Corcoran Holt, drummer Jonathan Blake and vibraphonist Tom Beckham. Micic has a clear, pleasing voice—reminds me of a composite between Blossom Dearie and June Christy. There are nine tunes on this set, of which seven are jazz standards. The other two are Alma’s own composition, Ne Zaboravi Me (Don’t Forget Me) and her own arrangement of the Russian folk tune Solnishko (Sunshine).

The jazz standards on this recording are: That Old Feeling; Harvest Moon; Moonglow; Cry Me a River: Honeysuckle Rose; Estate and Blue Moon. The supporting musicians provide melodic support but never overshadow the vocalist. For this reviewer, Beckham’s vibraphone performance is especially pleasing.

Micic, a native of Belgrade, Serbia, received a scholarship to Berklee School of Music in Boston, and on completion of her degree, moved to New York in 2000 with her guitarist husband Rale, who also served as producer of this Whaling City Sound recording.
